12209-z4m-801 Honda 120 / 160, Intake Valve Stem Seal
This is the oil seal that goes on the intake valve stem under the spring, It prevents oil from coming up through the shaft of the valve into the combustion chamber. By running this seal you will improve the color of the spark plug and performance.
In quarter midget rules you are not allowed to use the valve seal. the rule is very grey and unclear to what it means. The seal is the black rubber part that can be cut off, Now that the seal is gone this only acts as a shim to provide more spring pressure. It serves 2 jobs.
There is absolutely no mechanical reason for the seal to be removed, no engine advantage. But it is an oil advantage. There are some oils on the market that contain nitro and when the oil gets hot the vapor makes it up past this seal (or Lack of Seal) into the combustion chamber and will give you a bigger "bang" does it work -YES, Why is the rule written like this - FOR Advantage.
