KBP2022 - Genuine Honda 120, 160 Valve Spring Retainer .095 Thick
Honda 120/160 Valve Spring Retainer .095 Thick. These help valve spring performance. You only need one.
These are the little advantages in the rule book that you will never find, they are hidden in the numbers. A thicker retainer is like having more spring pressure because it compresses the spring more. When you are talking about 16 lbs - every bit matters, the .030 shim helps and the thicker retainer helps (.010) and the 140 valve spring helps also. In the USAC rule book it calls out the MAX thickness of the flange to be 0.100" but no factory retainer was ever that dim, every engine from the gx120, gx160, gx200 used one that is .085 thick. Some crafty engine builder wrote this rule. (usac rule .100 thick, .230 thick, .148 flange) This retainer (.095 thick, .235 thick, .150 flange) completely legal. You only ever see it on the intake side where you want to build compression, the exhaust side you want lazy.
For more spring pressure always replace the intake spring first, take the old intake spring and put it on the exhaust side and throw away the exhaust spring. change spring every 5-6 races. You want the intake to be snappy and the exhaust to be lazy.
Someday I am going to write a tell all book! I did not invent this one found it in my buddies FLASH best engines - thanks for the secrete Chris. The Real Honda part is the last picture.
